Civitas was glad to welcome a number of enthusiastic prospective applicants for pupillage into Chambers on Thursday 8th January, for a wide-ranging and informative conversation. Topics of discussion ranged from the application process, to the realities of life as a Civitas Pupil, and what practice as a Civitas Barrister can look like.
Owain Rhys James gave a few introductory remarks as Chair of the Pupillage Committee, reflecting on the varied nature of a Civitas pupillage. He explained that a First Six Pupil can expect to attend and learn from all areas of Chambers’ work, with a variety of Members. They will find themselves travelling across Wales and beyond, experiencing the depth and breadth of what Circuit life has to offer. He warmly welcomed attendees and expressed his hope that they would apply for Pupillage at Civitas, at what is an exciting time to be a member of Chambers.
Following introductions, attendees were divided into groups, and paired off with practitioners across the spectrum of experience and practice areas, to hold a more casual conversation on questions which many have wanted asked, but which are very seldom answered. Applicants had much to ask and say, and most stayed well beyond the expected end to the event. Chambers is grateful to all who attended, both applicants and Barristers, but particularly to Isabelle Knight, for her hard work in organising the evening.
