Kate specialises in traditional and commercial chancery work, acting in contentious and non-contentious matters for a wide range of private, corporate, and professional clients. She appears regularly in the High Court, County Court, and before various Tribunals across her areas of expertise.

Kate’s practice ranges from probate and trusts disputes, property disputes and company and partnership matters, to advising on and drafting trusts, deeds of variation and other estate planning documents. She also provides guidance on tax matters affecting estates and trusts, including Inheritance Tax, Capital Gains Tax and Stamp Duty Land Tax / Land Transaction Tax.

Kate is adept at managing factually and legally complex matters, offering clear, strategic advice, and acting as an effective advocate and problem solver for her clients.

A full member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP), Kate brings recognised expertise in trusts, estates and related matters. She is also a qualified civil and commercial mediator, offering clients effective alternatives to litigation.

Kate is a specialist Chancery barrister with a particular focus on wills, trusts and probate matters, acting in both contentious and non-contentious work. She is a full member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP) and welcomes instructions in all areas of trusts and estate law.

Kate advises clients on the construction, rectification, variation and validity of wills and trusts, and accepts instructions to advise on and draft deeds and trusts, including deeds of variation, deed of appointment and other estate planning documents. She also advises on tax matters affecting estates and trusts, including Inheritance Tax, Capital Gains Tax and Stamp Duty Land Tax/ Land Transaction Tax. She has particular experience in agricultural and landed estates, as well as estates involving business and partnerships.

  • Interpretation and rectification of wills and trusts
  • Applications for limited grants including copy wills
  • Applications to remove or substitute executors and trustees
  • Caveats, appearances, warnings and summonses
  • Advice on charitable gifts and trusts
  • Acting in claims involving devastavit and/or reach of trust
  • Pension trust disputes
  • Claims by estates to recover debts or compensation, including cases involving financial abuse
  • Proprietary estoppel including disputes over agricultural land

Kate also accepts instructions as a mediator in inheritance, wills and trusts disputes.

Kate has extensive experience in property and land disputes, acting for individuals, businesses and trustees. Her work spans a wide range of real property and trust related issues, and she regularly appears in the County Court and High Court.

Kate has a particular interest in the intersection of property and trusts law, frequently advising on beneficial ownership, estoppel, and trust based claims concerning land. She is often instructed to provide written opinions on complex issues of trust law, proprietary rights and taxation.

  • Cases concerning party walls and encroachments
  • Easements including disputes about rights of way, drainage rights and rights of access
  • Restrictive and positive covenants, including their enforcement, modification and discharge
  • Commercial landlord and tenant disputes
  • Residential landlord and tenant disputes
  • Implied and constructive trusts, including co-ownership and beneficial interest disputes
  • Setting aside declarations of trust on the grounds of common mistake or misrepresentation
  • Proprietary estoppel, including claims concerning land, farms and family property
  • Possession claims including proceedings against trespassers

Kate also accepts instructions to act as a mediator in real property and land matters.

Kate maintains a broad commercial law practice including contract disputes, misrepresentation and sale of goods. She approaches cases with thorough preparation and a practical outlook from initial advice through to trial. Kate’s recent company law work includes partnership disputes, advising on articles of association, and shareholder disputes.

Kate also has experience in insolvency matters, debt recovery and mortgage enforcement. She is frequently instructed to provide written opinions on complex company law issues, shareholder disputes and contractual rights.

  • Advising companies on shareholding issues and corporate governance
