Our Heritage

Civitas Chambers was founded in 2008 with a clear and progressive vision: to build a specialist civil and public law set at the heart of Wales’ legal landscape, grounded in excellence, innovation and service.

From the beginning, our ethos has been shaped by our commitment to providing clear, accessible and effective legal advice—guidance that can be readily understood by lay clients as well as professional clients.

Over the years, Civitas has grown into Wales’ leading specialist civil and public law chambers, recognised nationally for the quality of our advisory work, drafting, mediation and advocacy. We are proud to be ranked as a Top Tier Set in The Legal 500 and a Leading Set in Chambers UK Bar Guide, reflecting the dedication, expertise and professionalism of our members.

Our heritage is defined not only by our successes but by our principles. We were established as a forward-thinking set—one that seeks to reduce traditional barriers between barristers and solicitors; that values collaboration, accessibility and clarity; and that recognises the importance of being responsive to the needs of clients, courts and society.

Our modern facilities, accessible premises and investment in technology have long reflected this progressive outlook. From the outset, Civitas embraced hot-desking, mobile working and flexible conference arrangements—allowing members to serve clients across Wales and England with agility and consistency.

Our story is one of steady growth, strong relationships and a constant commitment to improving the delivery of legal services. It is a heritage we are proud of, and one that continues to guide our development today.
